Typhoon Francisco eventually took full advantage of its conditions and intensified markedly on the run up to its landfall around an hour ago near Miyazaki, on the island of Kyushu.
The storm intensified and displayed an eye temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, along with significant cloud tops around the eye. Force Thirteen's satellite analysis gave it winds of 105mph, bearing in mind that the intensification was a very recent development. Had Francisco been afforded another twelve hours, the storm may have strengthened to Category 4 intensity.
The stronger winds have also upped Francisco's status on the CDPS Scale - now up to Stage 4 (Extensive)
The storm is now expected to move on over Kyushu and onto South Korea, where tropical storm conditions are also likely.
