The remnants of Hurricane Barry persist over the Mississippi valley this evening, with more flooding possible in some areas. However, the main threat from the storm is now over.
A new area of interest has formed in the far eastern Pacific, near the coast of Costa Rica, and could develop into our next tropical cyclone in the basin later this week.
Invest 98W has been assigned the local name "Falcon" by PAGASA in the Philippines, and is now considered to be a tropical depression. The fate of the cyclone is very uncertain, with different models calling for potential landfalls on the Philippines, China, Taiwan, or South Korea in the next few days. Regardless, the system is likely to remain fairly weak, meaning that rainfall will be the greatest threat, particularly in the Philippines.
