Zak Summy and Jessica and Shannon DeFeo will honor the sisters they lost to pediatric cancer during the annual Parkway Run & Walk Sept. 19. Join them at
http://www.parkwayrun.org.
Both girls were patients at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Zak's sister, Naya, had a medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Jessica and Shannon's sister, Kayla, had leukemia.
Over the course of treatment, the Summy and Formica/DeFeo families became involved in the Four Seasons Parkway Run & Walk, the largest annual fundraiser for the Cancer Center at CHOP.
In 2013 and 2014, Naya proudly served as an ambassador for the Parkway Run, raising $230,000. This year, Zak will pick up where Naya left off, serving as a sibling ambassador for the 2015 event.
Zak’s leadership at Parkway Run is an important part of Naya’s legacy to raise awareness and funds for the brilliant researchers at CHOP who work tirelessly to cure childhood cancer.
For the Formica/DeFeo family, the day of the run has become like a holiday. They’ve been there each of the 10 years of the event.
This year, Jessica and Shannon will also serve as sibling ambassadors for the Parkway Run alongside Zak. They’re joined by several other patient ambassadors who are right in the middle of their fight.
