This talk features Executive Masters of Public Administration candidate Abdul Saboor, talking about how Syracuse, NY and the region has welcomed refugees to the community. In addition to his studies, Abdul works to resettle refugees for the Center for New Americans. In this Peer to Peer, he discusses who is designated a refugee; the process they go through to resettle in the U.S.; the case for welcoming refugees and how the travel ban has impacted resettlement and the region. About the speaker: Abdul Saboor is currently pursuing his Executive Master of Public Administration at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University. His first position was as a cultural advisor and interpreter to the U.S. military in Afghanistan. Through his work with the military, he was awarded the Superior Civilian Service Award. Abdul grew up in Kubal, however, for the past three years he has called Syracuse, N.Y. home. He is also Match Grant Coordinator for Center for New Americans at Interfaith Works CNY.
