
Executive MPA candidate and Air Force veteran Adam LeGrand outlines the perceptions of service animals in the U.S., laws concerning public access, and where policy is headed. Education is key to understanding the role of service animals, how they differ from support animals or family pets and in advancing acceptance and public policy for these service animals. He also discusses K9 for Warriors, the country’s leader in service animals for disabled veterans. The nonprofit was founded in 2011 by one mother in response to her son returning from war deeply impacted by its effects. Adam will be joined by his service dog, Molly. About the speaker: Adam LeGrand is an EMPA candidate with an interest in a concurrent CAS in Security Studies. He currently is Disabled Student Veteran Liaison Program Manager in the Office of Military and Veterans Affairs at Syracuse University, where he also is Student Veterans Organization President and Peer Advisor for Veterans in Education. Adam was a United States Air Force Medic for 10 years prior to medical retirement. He serves as National Ambassador for K9s for Warriors, and in roles as Alumni Administrator, veteran outreach, and in other efforts raising awareness for suicide, PTS, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Military Sexual Trauma. After graduation, he seeks to work within national security or a veteran service organization. Adam earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Rhetoric from Syracuse University in 2018.
