
Speaker: Sgt. 1st Class James Guild, DCP/EMPA Candidate, Maxwell School Suicide costs the United States an estimated $51 billion annually and is the 10th leading cause of death, the 2nd for U.S. citizens aged 15-34. For every one person lost to suicide, there are 25 attempts. Sgt. 1st Class James Guild will reflect on his experience at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School where he specialized in courses such as Suicide Intervention, Resiliency, and Crisis Counseling. He states that his most rewarding experiences in his 20-plus years in the Army has been helping individuals who were at risk of suicide. “Not only do I make a significant impact in their lives; I prevented a potential catastrophe for my organization. Having compassion for my fellow Soldiers has made all the difference in my career; it has been the sole reason for nearly all my success,” he states. About the speaker: SFC James Guild was most recently an instructor at the United States Army Chaplain Center and School, where his area of responsibilities included the training of Chaplains and Religious Affairs Specialists to serve in the U.S. Army. He specialized in courses such as Suicide Intervention, Resiliency, and Crisis Counseling. He earned a Bachelor's of Business Management from Upper Iowa University, and is a recognized as a "Master Trainer" of suicide intervention by the Living Works Association. SFC Guild has served four combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy and has been recognized by the National Infantryman's Association with the "Order of Saint Maurice." Event Date: October 17, 2017
