Resurgent authoritarianism and extreme nationalism have threatened free expression globally. On April 12, the Maxwell School hosted a three-part, interdisciplinary symposium that explored stories and strategies to address and challenge authoritarianism. The symposium featured participants from across the University as well as guests from Cornell and the U.S. State Department's Office of the Historian. The participants discussed China, Russia, India, Turkey, and Bosnia. It featured Professors Azra Hromadžić (Maxwell, Anthropology), Professor Christine Mehta (Newhouse), and Professors Brian Taylor, Dimitar Gueorguiev, and Latif Tas (Maxwell, Political Science). It was moderated by Professor Osamah Khalil (Maxwell, History).
